Go abroad in safe hands with our partner Au Pair in America, an organisation which is a accredited by the American government. We take care of everything; accomodation, flights, finding you a host family… We will keep in touch with you throughout your entire placement to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
The Au Pair in America programme in bullet points
- Placement duration: 1 year (with the option to extend)
- Departure dates: starting dates are available all year round – several departures are organised every month
- Age requirements: you must be aged 18 to 26
- Working hours: 45 hours per week
- Wage: $195.75 US per week
- Required experience: 200 hours of childcare
- Make new friends from all over the world
PLEASE NOTE: the programme is not open to male au pairs. Destinations available to male au pairs: Europe, Australia, New Zealand.

Advantages of the Au Pair in America programme
- Receive an allowance of $195.75 US
- Flights to and from New York included
(including departures from Nice, Marseille, Lyon…) - Includes 4 orientation days: you will visit New York and receive theoretical and practical training to prepare you for your new life in America!
- 12 month work permit (Visa J-1) + 4 weeks visa extension at the end of your placement to enable you to travel
- Possibility to extend the au pair placement by 6 to 12 months
- 2 weeks paid-leave
- A study scholarsip of up to $500 US
- Basic health insurance included for 12 months
- Our agency will keep in touch with you to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Conditions for becoming an au pair in the USA
- You must be aged 18 to 26
- You must be available for at least 12 months
- You must have completed secondary education
- You must have a driving license
- You must be a non-smoker
- You must have experience working with children – at least 200 hours (baby-sitting, early learning centre, nursery…) completed over the last 3 years
- You must have a clear criminal record
- You must have at least an intermediate level of English
Au Pair in America programme fees to be paid to AFJ
- Apply for free: we help you put together your dossier and all throughout the application process, free of charge.
- Interview fee: €140
PLEASE NOTE: the payment is made on the day of your interview with the head of the programme on our premises.
- Programme fee: €550
PLEASE NOTE: the payment is not made until your placement with a host family has been confirmed. - J-1 visa fee: around €150 (bear in mind travel costs to the American Embassy in Paris)
